Hi all,
Thanks for being patient with us. We released the new Loopt last week but it had some performance issues so, since then, we’ve been working around the clock to get them fixed. In addition, we’ve also tried to address some of the great feedback we’ve been getting from the Loopt community.
You’ll be happy to hear that the newer Loopt for the iPhone and iPod touch is now available in the App Store.
Here are the improvements:
- Much faster load times and performance improvements
- Push notifications enabled
- Easier to find Friends Map
- Defaults to previously used tab
Check out the new Loopt demo video:
Hope you enjoy it,
The Loopt Team
Thanks for getting that out so quickly, I really like the new push notifications.

What Happened to the "Ping" function???

They are still there! Go to Friends, then select a friend from the Map or List, then tap the Profile tap (next to Journal in the upper right). To see how, skip to 2:10 in the demo video in this post.

where is the android version? will it be ignored?

Terrible update. SLOW, requires twice or three times as many keystrokes just to ping a friend.
Please bring back the old Loopt

I HATE the new loopt. All of my friends are considering deleting the app even though the idea is a good one

Hi, I just came across your iPhone app and it looks interesting. But unfortunatly I'm from Europe and therefore have no american mobile number. Are there any schedules when you will enter the european market with your app? I'll stay tuned.

What about support for Canada?

I understand how many people are resistant to change, and the cry to "Just put it back" come with any major change. However, while I like some of the changes, I must agree that pings and Friend locations need to be one-touch.
To put it bluntly, without the ability to ping my friends quickly, I have no need to use this app.

The new version has broken this app for me since I was a relatively new user. The add friends from your contact list doss not properly parse phone numbers and therefore cannot find anything.
Also the nearby interests list is fairly useless as it lists one item 3 miles away then the rest of the list is 220 miles away. What's the point?
Was enjoying the app but now it is just another unused icon.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your feedback. We'll work on making the ping function more accessible. For now, Pings can be found by going to Friends, then selecting a friend from the Map or List, then tapping the Profile tab (next to Journal in the upper right). To see how, skip to 2:10 in the demo video in this post.

Eric, Sn@pshot,
Thanks for the feedback. Loopt is not yet available outside of the U.S., hopefully soon though! Make sure you sign up to receive updates by adding your e-mail to The List on the upper right side of this page. That way, you'll always be in the loop(t).

Nice changes, but sending messages now do not allow for as many characters. It used to allow about 3x as many characters. Please change that portion back to allow for longer messages. Sending 3 messages at a time gets annoying.

Hello,
Since the new loop version came out, my iPod is not consistent with the information. Basically, my loop is NOT WORKING. It doesn't matter if I reload/delete/reload...etc. I hope you fix all the issues. I think the old version was more estable and most importantly it worked.

Hi Lucy,
Would you mind sending us an e-mail: [email protected] with more detail?

Ugh!!! My entire family uses this App or should I say used this app.
It is so confusing and we are all very technical people.
One of the best features with the previous versions was seeing how many miles everyone was from you, we enjoyed while traveling throughout the world moving to the top of the list when getting closer to one another an seeing the exact miles.
LooptFAIL is now what we're up to. I've moved it off my first two pages of Apps, only way I'll start using it again is if the interface is cleaned up and the miles/list is put back.

Hi Spyphone,
There have been a few people that are reporting problems with the ping functionality; specifically, receiving pings through push notifications. We're working on fixing this, but if you could e-mail [email protected], it might help us isolate the problem quicker.

My wife and I are trying the App out on the iPhone and have found the ping/pong push feature unusable. 98% of the time it does not work ... check-in accuracy has not been a problem so far in Maine on AT&T. The ping/pong was the feature we were most interested in - if it doesn't work soon I will remove the app. I would concur with the above posts that the location of the ping/pong feature is hard to find and figure out.

Hey guys... I have an iPhone 3G 3.0 that I use on T-Mobile and deleted the old app from my phone because it wouldn't even allow me to sign up from the phone! I figured it was because I was using an unlocked phone on a different network than what you guys had probably set up the app for. Basically, does the new loopt work on iPhone 3G 3.0 firmware on the T-Mobile network?
Thanks.
