Share What’s Up: How Many Co-Founders Does it Take to Put Together Hardware?

Loopt Mix’s launch was so successful that Sam, Nick, and Alok, Loopt’s co-founders, had to do some late night/morning work to upgrade our Loopt Mix hardware so that it could handle all the excitement.

Loopt Mix is now in the Top 50 free apps in the App Store!

Loopt Mix: More Features, More Fun, New App

Loopt Mix - 1

Loopt Mix—the service that introduces you to the people nearby that you wish you knew—is growing up! Starting today, Loopt Mix is available for the iPhone or iPod touch as its own application in the Apple App Store.

We’ve decided to make Loopt Mix a stand-alone application so that we can pack it with the features you’ve been asking us for, such as real-time, in-app chat, the ability to upload multiple photos, and much more.

Since launching Loopt Mix last year, we’ve received an overwhelmingly positive response from the Loopt community: like Brad, who found a surfing buddy on Loopt Mix, or Topher, who was reunited with a long-lost friend on Loopt Mix. Loopt Mix is a simple and fun way to connect with others nearby in the real world who share your interests. It’s ideal for those who are looking for new friends to go to events with, getting to know someone over coffee, or new to town—almost anything you can imagine.

Feature highlights include:

Loopt Mix - 2  Loopt Mix - 3  Loopt Mix - 4

- Free messaging with people around the country on Loopt Mix!
- Browse profiles of interesting people near you.
- Real-time, in-app chat with push notifications.
- Post multiple photos and status updates to introduce yourself.
- Use likes / tags and search filters to connect in the real world.

Try it out for yourself. Go to the App Store on your iPhone or iPod touch and search “Loopt Mix.” It’s free – just create a profile to start meeting the people you wish you knew. You can click here to download it now too.

Like previous versions of Loopt Mix, we don't show you the exact location of other members of the Loopt community, just approximately how close they are. You're always in full control—you can easily change your privacy settings.

Leave a comment and let us know how you like it.

The world around you never stops moving so Loopt should provide you with a service that doesn’t either. You’re constantly running errands, answering calls, meeting up with friends, etc. – you need your mobile phone to update your location in real-time while you’re in motion. Loopt supports location updating via its Always-On Location Service even when you’re not running the Loopt application on many platforms and our users love it. That’s why we’re excited to announce that Loopt is providing this separate, optional Always-On Location Service for the iPhoneTM to provide you with information on the “now” as well as the “here”.

Always-on location is incredibly valuable because it gives you and your friends highly relevant, actionable information. We are confident you’ll enjoy the experience it offers.

We will provide this separate Always-On Location Service to a limited set of Loopt users on a trial basis in order to help test-drive it. Alabama’s Cool Journal Widget

Alabama is a radio personality in Lansing, Michigan for 97.5 NOW FM’s afternoon show. She does a lot of appearances for the radio station around town at grand openings, concerts, etc., and she uses Loopt to show her listeners what she’s up to. She says, “Loopt gives my listeners easy access to me and is absolutely great for promoting my radio station and show. It is great for interaction with my listeners - besides just hearing about events on air, it shows them where I am and what the event looks like. I think Loopt is more personal than just talking about an event on the radio.”

You can share your Loopt Journal with any of your friends on your web sites, blogs, or social networks with the Loopt Journal Widget too. To create a Journal Widget, just log-in to your Loopt account online at loopt.com, and click on the “Get your Journal Widget” link to get started. You can also go here to create and place your Loopt Journal Widget (it’s as easy as copying and pasting).

If you think you have a cool Loopt Journal Widget, e-mail us at blog@loopt.com and we’ll share it here!

What’s a Life Graph?

SXSW 2010 You’ve heard of the “Social Graph” but have you heard of the “Life Graph”? Want to find out more about what your “Life Graph” is and how it will change your life?

If you do, please vote for Loopt’s South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Conference panel – The Life Graph: You Are Your Location. Click here to vote.

Here’s the description:

Bridging the gap between cyberspace and reality, the “Life Graph” will revolutionize how individuals interact with the world around them: predictive recommendations with rich local content that matters the most to you here and now. We will explore the Life Graph concept and how it will change your life.

At the last SXSW Conference, we led a great discussion on location-based advertising with our “Location, Location, Location: The Future of Mobile Advertising” panel so we hope to do it again. If you’re interested, you can listen to that panel here.

Again, you only have until September 4th to vote so do it now.

Sam (Loopt’s founder and CEO) was recently interviewed by Charlie Rose. Highlights include their discussion on the unfolding mobile revolution, location-based advertising, the evolution of cross-carrier text messaging, Twitter and real-time search, being a student at Stanford, and the amazingly addictive Flight Control game. Oh yea...of course, he talks about Loopt’s ability to enhance your connections with the real world too. See it for yourself:

Loopt-Twitter Linkage: Top Dog Walk

Dana and Vijay are dog-loving people who share an affinity for fur, fun, and long walks on the beach, so they started Top Dog Walk - a dog walking service on the east coast of Virginia. As part of their service they’re letting the owners of the dogs join them on their walks in real-time using Loopt-Twitter link. Here’s their story:

Before starting Top Dog Walk, my husband and I worked in advertising. I worked in the digital arm of the ad agency and so, was on the forefront of developing technology in social media. One tool that EVERYONE in our industry seemed to be latching onto was Loopt.

When we got the ball rolling for our business, we couldn't help but let our ad-training influence us: how cool would it be to tell prospective clients that they could go on virtual walks with us? To not only see a picture of their pooch on the walk, but to have it geo-tagged so they knew where we actually were - at the ice cream shop on Colley Avenue or at the fire hydrant on 21st street?

The answer: it's awesome.

We recently had a client switch to us by referral because her previous dog walker wasn't actually coming to walk their dog. It was a great feeling to be able to say: "You'll know we're walking your dog the minute we're walking him because of this awesome (and incredibly FREE) service called Loopt."

One of our regulars, Huck (see below), has become quite popular with his extended family because of our Loopt-Twitter posts. His owner's boyfriend and his parents have gone from not even knowing who Huck was (since they live in different cities from Huck's owner), to specifically requesting that Huck be brought on visits to see them.

So, as you can see, it's not just the owners who benefit - it's everyone with an internet connection and a soft spot for cute dogs.

So thanks for making us look good, Loopt! You're definitely Top Dog in our book (har...har...har).

best,
Dana (the wife) + Vijay (the husband) + The Top Dog Team
